Configuring Voip on Nokia mobile phone

All Nokia E Series and some other Nokia models support VoIP (SIP) natively, i.e., a SIP client is integrated into their firmware. See the below link to the Forum Nokia page for a list of which models support VoIP natively, and which Nokia S60 VoIP Release number is included when a particular model’s firmware is updated, or not, as the case may be: .

However, some newer Nokia models

which run on the Symbian 3 operating system also support VoIP; unfortunately, so far, they are not listed on that Nokia Wiki Forum page, so you would have to check each model’s specifications to make sure it does actually have a SIP client.

Whether the updating of a model’s firmware changes the Nokia S60 VoIP Release number or not, it is always advisable to install the latest firmware as improvements to VoIP performance can result anyway.

Nokia phones using VoIP Rel 3.1 and later:

None of the settings in the SIP client can be accessed without using a Nokia SIP VoIP Settings Application. That application is mentioned further in the following paragraphs.

When using the Nokia SIP client over a 3G / HSDPA connection the call quality can be vastly improved if the G.729 or iLBC codecs are used. However, the Nokia SIP client does not give the user access to the codec settings, unless you install a “Nokia SIP VoIP Settings Application” on the phone.

Here is a link to the Forum Nokia page about the Nokia SIP VoIP Settings application which suits Nokia S60 VoIP Releases 2.2, 2.3, 3.0 or 3.1 and Nokia’s which run on the Symbian 3 Operating System:
