Disturbing clicking and noise heard on some calls

I’ve noticed some breakdowns and disturbing clicking on some calls. Finally got’enlightenment’.

It’s the CN, “Comfort Noise”, codec.

I recommended to disable “Comfort Noise” (CN) in SIP profile, to get better voice quality. This is a correction to my earlier Posts; Codecs post and setup post. “Comfort Noise” (CN) is causing voice breakdowns, disturbing clicking and noise on some calls.

So lets disable the “Comfort Noise”.

Nokia phone does not allow editing of SIP profile settings as long as VoIP Service is active. If editing is necessary, then switch phone temporarily to Offline mode and do not allow WLAN access in Offline mode:

Menu-> Ctrl. Panel-> Profiles-> Offline

Or deactivating the service

When the VoIP service is active, the service can be deactivated in the Contacts menu:

Menu > Contacts and scroll left or right to the VoIP service submenu (e.g. Provider)

select Options > Deactivate service (or Log out)

The device deregisters now from SIP server and the Wireless LAN/3G connection is disconnected. After the deactivation, the SIP profile can be edited and viewed again.

The VoIP service is activated again after switching to profile General and next internet call attempt or once you activate the service again.

Nokia phone shows this setting as “CN codec”, that is relevant for G.711 and iLBC codec in VoIP settings. A piggyback?

1. Switch phone to Offline mode or deactivate the service

2. Menu-> Ctrl. Panel-> Net settings-> Advanced VoIP settings->VoIP services-> Select your Service-> Codecs:

3. Select the “CN” codec and delete it

4. Switch phone back profile General

or

When the VoIP service has been deactivated, the service can be activated in the Contacts menu:

Menu > Contacts and scroll left or right to the VoIP service submenu (e.g. Provider)

select Options > Activate service (or Log in)

The device registers now to SIP server and the Wireless LAN connection is connected.

Now you have even better voice quality.
